The purpose of this site is to explore topics surrounding teaching, education policy, teaching practice, and assessment.

I am a career public school teacher.  I have been teaching Social Studies for 25 years at the middle school and high school level near Minneapolis, Minnesota.  I completed my undergraduate degree in education at the University of Nebraska – Kearney, which was originally founded as a Teachers College.  I completed my Masters Degree at the University of Minnesota with a concentration in Curriculum & Instruction.  In 2008, I completed my Doctorate from the University of Sussex in England, where I spent three summers taking courses and learning from my cohort colleagues.  Together we brought experiences in education from five different continents and a wide range of cultures.

I also serve as an adjunct Lecturer at the University of Minnesota in the department of Curriculum and Instruction, and volunteer at a Minneapolis high school serving as a tutor for ELL students.

  1. Todd, Your website and dedication to the education profession is truly amazing. I look forward to following your blog and reading more of your material. A friend of mine and former principal from Dubuque became the new principal at Shakopee High School this summer. Her name is Kim Swift and she is an exceptional leader. If you ever run into her, please let her know you have a Dubuque, Iowa connection. George
